MAKKAH: Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, who is also chairman of the Central Haj Committee, toured the holy sites yesterday to inspect the final preparations for this year’s Haj.

“I believe after viewing the thorough preparations in the holy sites, including the Jamrat Bridge, that we have done everything possible to guarantee a relaxed and safe Haj for all pilgrims,” Prince Khaled told Arab News after the tour.

The prince added that the preparations this year are in keeping with the potentials of the Kingdom. “We do feel honored to host the guests of Allah in this holy land. We hope that the pilgrims would be pleased by the services we render, and that their Haj would be peaceful and rewarding,” he said.

Regarding the stipulation that domestic pilgrims should carry Haj permits issued by the Passport Department, the prince said he was pleased with the response of Saudi pilgrims.

“I tell my brothers in the Kingdom that you should be the first to follow the regulations of the land and thus be the most eligible people to serve the guests of Allah. Therefore, we must stick to the regulations of our country and respect our laws as we respect ourselves,” the governor told fellow Saudis.

Prince Khaled said the regulation that domestic pilgrims should carry a permit was not new. “This order was issued several years ago. What is new is the media campaign to remind the people about the regulation,” the prince pointed out. He said more than 1.5 million foreign pilgrims have already arrived in Makkah.

Regarding complaints about the steep hike in the service fees charged by domestic pilgrim organizations, the prince said the issue would be studied.

Prince Khaled visited the newly constructed third story and control and monitoring rooms while touring the Jamrat Bridge in Mina.

Officials briefed the governor about the plans for pilgrim grouping and crowd management at the holy sites.

Prince Khaled also visited the special operations room of the Civil Defense in Makkah and launched the organization’s website.
